Martina Sabourin

Uncommon Celebrant

千里姻缘一线牵

Let me help you create a ceremony uniquely yours

As a New Jersey Certified Celebrant and Minister, I commit myself to helping couples, their families, and friends celebrate this life event with a unique and heartfelt ceremony.

我是新澤西州認證的主婚人,我承諾幫助未婚夫婦,他們的家人和朋友慶祝這個一生一世的大事,可以有一個獨特的和衷心的儀式

Why choose a Celebrant?

Celebrants are professionals that specialize in creating ceremonies to recognize and honor life’s various events, such as baby naming, rites of passage, weddings, funerals and ceremonies to honor and celebrate or to provide healing for any other events in our lives.

Many couples choose a Celebrant ceremony because they have a special vision of their ceremony and want an officiant to realize that and help them achieve it.  Working together, we will create your very own ceremony and a ceremony that is beyond your dreams.  Many couples have come to me to also acknowledge that their parents special place in their life.  Ceremonies not only focus on special bonds between the couples, but also honor their families and friends.

Why choose
My Story

I am an Ordained Non-Denominational and Interfaith Minister and a Certified Celebrant; earning my certificate in Marriage Celebrancy through the Celebrant USA Foundation.  I am also a Civil Celebrant registered in New Jersey.

我是非宗教派的祭司和認證的主婚人; 在美國Celebrant基金會獲得我的主持結婚證書。 我也是在新澤西註冊的民事Celebrant。

I honor all ceremonial traditions — non-denominational, spiritual, religious, interfaith or civil — and can incorporate any family customs, meaningful rituals, songs, and passage readings into your wedding ceremony.  You are my collaborators in creating special rituals for your ceremony, so don’t feel bound by traditions.  It is your special day and you should feel free to create your own ceremony.  I have officiated many of my ceremonies in a bilingual fashion, in English and Chinese (both in Cantonese and Mandarin).

You will be able to review and approve the ceremony before the wedding.  Please take a moment to see what my couples are saying about working with me and their feelings about their ceremony.  I am honored to be your Minister and Celebrant and guide you along this amazing journey.

Dear Martina,

Thank you so much for helping to make this day wonderful.  You worked so closely with us and for this we are grateful.  Peace & Love, Tia and Jim.

You are great on guiding the couple to understand what will be in their ceremony little by little. By giving us all the clear and complete written documents you prepared for us, you showed the whole picture to us ahead of time. However, we were still thrilled seeing your last version of our ceremony procedure manual, it was simply much better than our expectation. We were very impressed by how you gathered our scattered information and merged them into your ceremony. Very natural and very personal - Fang and Yi

We absolutely grateful and a honor in having you be part of our wedding day.   The ceremony was perfect - Kevin and Presillia

My Story

I am an ethic Chinese who grew up in Hong Kong, where we celebrated all the Chinese festivals and English holidays.  Chinese festivals all have historical stories behind them, unique rituals, and particular foods to be eaten during these celebrations.  Growing up, I watched all the adults around me participate in these rituals.  We were taught to follow their example, to bow to say certain greetings, and enjoy the different foods.  In school we learned the stories and meanings behind each of these festivals.  These rituals became part of me along with the English Christian heritage.

Within individual families there are also many family rituals that we performed.  Most Chinese families have an ancestor alter, which resides usually at the home of the oldest member of the family.  When we entered our grandparents’ home paying respect to our ancestors would be the first thing we would do (besides announcing our arrival).  This honoring of ancestors also occurs in all the celebrating and grieving events.  Their presence, the ancestors' presence, was ongoing, extended from generation to generations.

It is in this backdrop that I found my celebrant work.  Celebrants encourage us to honor all of life’s events with special rituals, sometimes traditional and other times creating our own.  Honoring our past as well as our future during these celebrations enables us to look backward and forward on our path.

Most of my Celebrant work has been in weddings, where I have helped couples create an uncommon ceremony for their special day.  These ceremonies also help their families and guests understand their love and devotion to each other and to honor the occasion as well as each other.

NJ Civil Celebrant Certificate

Once you decide you want me to be your celebrant, there is a deposit of half the cost of the ceremony to hold the date and time for your wedding event and to recognize the work to be done in advance of the ceremony preparing the ceremony.  I will devote all my resources to help you create your wedding ceremony.

Typically, there will be some basic information I will need from you.  There will be a couple questionnaires that the couple should fill out individually.  This is helps me to get to know you and create the feel and tone of the ceremony.  If you want special cultural or individual rituals and readings, I would be happy to help you to incorporate into the ceremony.

Since I am bilingual in English and Chinese, I can do part of the ceremony in each language.  My Chinese fluency is with Cantonese; however, I can say a few words in Mandarin.

I will send you a first draft within an agreed time frame for your review.  We collaborate on the ceremony and you have the final say on what the ceremony will be.  On the day of the ceremony, normally I will be there 30 minutes before the ceremony.  If the couple needs me to be there for rehearsal, I would arrive earlier to help with rehearsal.

If you are getting married in the New Jersey area and are interested in learning more about choosing a Wedding Officiant/Minister, please contact me to set up a no-obligation personal consultation.
